batyr ‘It’s Awkward But’
In 2019, a student team working with social enterprise batyr created a fantastic online campaign that was launched to the public as part of baty'rs Mental Health Month campaign. See the ‘It’s Awkward But’ campaign.
Since the campaign’s launch, batyr has received an incredible response from a range of individuals, organisations and key stakeholders. Several key Instagram influencers who are advocates for mental health jumped on board and shared the It’s Awkward But… message with their audiences (photos below), and the strength of the campaign has opened up a range of other opportunities for batyr, including:
- A full-page colour advert in Men’s Health magazine, donated for free by Pacific Magazines
- Interest from Pedestrian TV to include editorial content on their website
- Free digital media inventory from Seven West Media to promote the campaign, for which batyr has had the students’ assets turned into animations!
- Further exposure of the campaign in batyr’s school programs, with stickers and other promotional materials being made to compliment the campaign and share the message amongst students

Centre for Inclusive Design "Mapping the Edge"
BCII students working with Centre for Inclusive Design through the IIP and internships have created a 'Mapping the Edge' card deck that is now used within workshops and as a sales tool for CfID.
"The Mapping the Edge cards raise awareness of the intersectionality of disability – that being, how temporary, situational and permanent disability affects people. They challenge the users to make their designs work for the people on the cards whilst educating them on the social model of disability.
The cards have been used by CfID staff members in workshops with Microsoft, Adobe and NSW Public Service Commission to tackle recruitment, education and software design. Recently, the NSW Customer Service Commission ordered 20 decks of the cards for use by their teams and use across the NSW Government. CfID are currently in talks to digitise these cards and implement within a standard accessibility offering across the NSW Government.
The innovation flexibility and speed displayed by our cohort of BCII students was absolutely amazing. We’ve had two cohorts of students as interns and assisted another with an Industry Innovation Project, and each time have been impressed by their brilliance. I’d recommend becoming a BCII Industry Partner to anyone looking for ways to innovate a current project, or looking for ways to create meaningful impact on their company – their solutions and the follow through for implementation is second to none.
