If your teaching interests change during your education course, it may be possible to change your current major, sub-major, primary specialisation or electives. Please see the table below for a break-down of what each of the terms mean:

Please consider the following prior to submitting your eRequest:
- If you are requesting to change your major, please include a brief personal statement with a reason for the request.
- It is only possible to change majors to those majors that are in your course.
- If approved, please note that this may extend the duration for you to complete your course.

In which courses can changes be made?
You may be able to make changes to your study plan if you are in either of the undergraduate courses:
- C10350 Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Education, or
- C10349 Bachelor of Education Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (not from 2021 onwards)*
*This only applies to the Education component of your combined degree.
Students in C04255 Master of Teaching in Secondary Education are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Unfortunately, changes cannot be made to any of the newer courses from 2021. If you wish to change courses, you will need to apply via UAC. For more information and other frequently asked questions for the new courses, please visit the course transition arrangements page.
If I am in the Primary major and would like to change to the Secondary major (or vice versa), can I apply via eRequest?
Yes, you can apply via eRequest. Please ensure that you supply a brief personal statement for your request to be considered.
Please note that students in the A majors (Primary A or Secondary A) will not be permitted to change into the standard Primary or Secondary majors. You must stay in this major for the duration of your course.
Can I change my major in the Master of Teaching in Secondary Education?
It is highly unlikely that you will be able to change your major in the Master of Teaching in Secondary Education as you will need to have completed the required discipline subjects in your undergraduate degree. If you believe that you have met the requirements, please email your course coordinator and attach your undergraduate academic record (transcript) for re-assessment.
I want to enrol into electives that aren't on the list. Is this possible?
Education courses are quite inflexible due to compliance requirements.
If you are a Master of Teaching in Secondary Education student who requires further discipline studies as part of the teaching content shortfall, you must submit an eRequest to have your electives changed.
Will the sub-majors allow me to teach in that field?
Unfortunately, you will be unable to teach in your sub-major area.
Can I study a primary specialisation if I started my course prior to 2019?
Students who commenced their Primary Education course prior to 2019 may be able to add a primary specialisation to their study plan. If you have yet to complete your electives or are willing to add more time to your course, you will need to submit an eRequest to make the appropriate changes. Read a list of the available specialisations.
Will my request be automatically approved?
Your request will be referred to the School for consideration and a decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
If the major or sub-major is no longer being offered but was available when I started, can I request to change into it?
Unfortunately, if the major or sub-major is no longer available, you will be unable to change.
