UTS student account
As an enrolled UTS student, you will receive a UTS student ID number linked with a UTS email address and a number of key UTS systems.
This account will be your account from the day you enrol until the day you graduate from UTS. It provides you easy access to various UTS systems that will assist you throughout your studies.
Important: Before you can access UTS systems, you will need to set up and use multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA protects your account from unauthorised access, and gives you secure and easy access to multiple UTS systems using single sign-on. Go to login.uts.edu.au now to set up your MFA.
Your UTS IT account and email gives you (to name just some of systems and facilities):
- A UTS email account (Microsoft platform)
- Connection to UTS-WiFi , secure WiFi while on site
- Use of UTS computers (general access)
- Available software
- Use of Canvas for all subject learning material
- Other learning platforms used by your faculty for teaching
- UTS Library catalogues, services and remote access to databases you need for your studies
- Use of ServiceConnect for IT help and requests
- Use of MyStudentAdmin and several other important online administrative tools
- Student printing and a print and copy account (MyMonitor)
- Room access for the rooms and facilities your teaching and learning is happening
Account activation
Your UTS student account is created after you have enrolled. You must then activate your account and set up your multi-factor authentication (MFA).
To activate your account you will need to:
- Go to the UTS:My Account website
- Enter your student identification (student ID) number
- Enter the required personal details
- Enter your birth date according to the format in the example: dd/mm/yy (any other date format will result in an error)
- Read and understand the applicable UTS IT and email policies and guidelines and tick the four boxes listed (by activating your account you agree to abide by all UTS policies and rules especially pertaining to the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy. Breaches of policies and guidelines may lead to locking of student accounts, disciplinary action and initiation of legal process or expulsion).
- Set up three (3) security questions. You will need to ensure that you remember the answers to these questions as these will be used to verify your identification in future
- Create a password. Your password must be 8 to 16 characters long, and can only contain letters, numbers and symbols but MUST CONTAIN AT LEAST ONE OF EACH. Spaces are not allowed. Do not use your UTS ID number. Do not use your previous password.
- If you have set up your password correctly, you will see a confirmation that your account has been activated and you will see your email address
- Set up your multi-factor authentication (MFA) at login.uts.edu.au. Refer below for more information.
Tips to assist you with setting your security questions
- Answers to your three questions can be numbers or letters but not symbols (for example do not use %$#*). Each question must be unique. Answers cannot be more than 40 characters but may consist of more than one word.
- Only you should know the answers to your security questions. Anyone who is able to answer one of your security questions correctly may be able to use your UTS access account, which includes email and enrolment functions.
- Please select your security questions wisely and make sure they are easily remembered. Not remembering your answers will cause delays when asking for help with any password problems that might arise. If you forget the answers to your security questions you may be required to provide photo identification at one of the IT Support Centres in order to have your password reset.
Setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA)
After activating your email account remember that before you can access UTS systems you will need to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA). Go to login.uts.edu.au to make sure you are set up with MFA or visit our MFA support page for detailed instructions and troubleshooting.
IT Support Centre is also available to help you if you have any problems.
Data security at UTS and your responsibilities
All students must use UTS IT resources responsibly, including accounts and platforms, ensuring that their use complies with UTS policies, and state and federal legislation requirements.
Part of your responsibilities is to protect your passwords so make sure you never reveal these to anyone – you may be breaching university policies if you do.
