Professional experience programs

Welcome to Teacher Education Professional Experience

If you’re enrolled in a pre-service teacher education program at UTS, you’ll complete a series of compulsory Professional Experience placements over the course of your degree. These placements give you access to practical and theoretical scenarios that prepare you for the classroom.

There are two components to the Professional Experience program:

• Campus-based studies, where you’ll investigate a range of pedagogical issues, skills and procedures that will contribute to your professional practice
• Field experiences, where you’ll apply your skills in a real-world educational setting (such as a school or college).

All Professional Experience placements are organised by the Professional Experience Office. Please contact the PEx Office if you have any enquiries about your placement. Please ensure you have read through the 2025 Professional Experience Handbook (pdf 1.25MB)

Mandatory checks 

Before you undertake a school-based professional experience placement, you’ll need to complete a series of background checks and training modules. It is your responsibility to ensure these have been completed before you commence your placement. You will be unable to undertake your placement if all your checks and documentation have not been finalised. Visit our Mandatory Checks page for more information.

Professional experience documentation

As part of your Professional Experience Placement, you will be required to submit an evaluation report and record of attendance via MyPlacement. Visit our Professional experience documentation page for more information on reports and documentation requirements.

MyPlacement is our professional experience database used to manage placements, complete online forms and submit mandatory checks. To login to MyPlacement, please select your course type (Teacher Education Primary or Teacher Education Secondary) and then enter your UTS student ID and password.
