QBExUTS Case Cup
REGISTRATIONS FOR THE 2024 CASE CUP COMPETITION ARE NOW OPEN
The UTS Business School and UTS Case Team bring you the QBExUTS Case Cup, a competition sponsored by ASX-listed company, QBE Insurance Group Limited.
In this competition, UTS students work in teams of four on a real business case problem set by QBE. This year’s case focuses on Hybrid Working and how QBE can effectively manage its workforce into the future.
Your work can use knowledge from any area of study – IT, design, business, engineering. Importantly, this competition is open to all UTS students, regardless of your degree or major. No experience of case competitions (or business knowledge) is required. The case solving only requires research, critical thinking and communication skills independent of your area of study.
The full details of the case will be provided in a full case brief released one week prior to the first presentation. See below upcoming workshops and sessions that will explain the process of case solving and help you learn more about the management of the case company, QBE Insurance.
Key dates:
21 August, 5pm: Team Registrations Close.
22 – 29 August: Case Solving Week.
30 August: Present your Solution at UTS.

What is a Case?
A case is basically a case study you would be assigned in an assignment. Where you would be given information about an organisation and set several questions to answer about the company.
In this context, the questions set are focused on real strategic and management questions, and you will be acting as a management consultant in presenting the organisation with a solution to their case problem. A case presentation structure is made of three parts:
- Analysis of the company and the case problem: What do you need to be aware of in order to develop a solution?
- The proposed business solutions: What is your solution and how does it solve the problem?
- Financial and operational feasibility of the solution: What are the benefits of the solution to the organisation and how can it be implemented?
There are two main things to prepare:
(1) A PowerPoint slide deck summarising the three parts.
(2) A Presentation between 10-12 minutes.
Click Here for an example of an excellent case presentation from the winning UTS team of the 2023 Lazaridis International Case Conference in Waterloo, Canada. The presentation is based on a case from the Canadian organisation TD Insurance, available here.
