As you near the end of your studies, it’s important to understand the essential steps needed to prepare for graduation.
Course completion and graduation
Eligibility to graduate
Students need to have satisfied all course requirements in order to graduate and receive an academic award from the university as outlined in sections 12 and 13 of the UTS Student Rules (the rules).
In addition, a student will not be eligible to graduate if they are involved in any student misconduct or appeals proceedings as outlined in section 16 of the rules.
When enrolling in their final year or session, students need to ensure their program of study will satisfy requirements in accordance with the required timeframe so as not to delay their graduation.
Levels of award
The level of award recommended for individual students will be determined in according with guidelines for individual courses stated below and as outlined in section 13 of the rules.
Bachelor of Business (C10026 and C10226) and combined degrees
The Bachelor of Business may be awarded with Distinction, Credit or Pass.
Awards of the Bachelor of Business or the Bachelor of Business component of a combined degree are based on the weighted average mark calculated in accordance with the formula 'sum of all' (subject credit points multiplied by mark) divisible by the 'sum of all subject credit points' for all UTS attempted subjects that are graded (note: ‘grade, no marks’ results are assigned the mid-point mark) and are included as part of the Bachelor of Business and combined degrees. Ungraded pass/fail subjects, subjects taken while on exchange, and subjects granted as recognition of prior learning, are not included in the calculation. The calculation displayed on the academic transcript excludes all subjects without a ‘mark’.
- For a degree with Distinction, the weighted average mark must be greater than or equal to 74.50
- For a degree with Credit, the weighted average mark must be between 64.50 and 74.49 (inclusive)
- For a degree with Pass, the weighted average mark must be less than or equal to 64.49
Bachelor of Management (C10342) and combined degrees
The Bachelor of Management may be awarded with distinction, credit or pass.
Awards of the Bachelor of Management or the Bachelor of Management component of a combined degree are based on the weighted average mark calculated in accordance with the formula 'sum of all' (subject credit points multiplied by mark) divisible by the 'sum of all subject credit points' for all UTS attempted subjects that are graded (note: ‘grade, no marks’ results are assigned the mid-point mark) and are included as part of the Bachelor of Management and combined degrees. Business Honours courses
The Bachelor of Business (Honours) (C09004) and Bachelor of Management (Honours) (C09081) may be awarded with First Class Honours, Second Class Honours Division 1, Second Class Honours Division 2, and Third Class Honours.
Awards of the Business Honours are based on the weighted average mark calculated in accordance with the formula 'sum of all' (subject credit points multiplied by mark) divisible by the 'sum of all subject credit points' for all UTS attempted subjects that are graded and are included as part of the Business Honours degree. Ungraded pass/fail subjects, subjects taken while on exchange, and subjects granted as recognition of prior learning, are not included in the calculation.
- For a degree with First Class Honours, the weighted average mark must be greater than or equal to 85.00
- For a degree with Second Class Honours Division 1, the weighted average mark must be between 75.00 and 84.99 (inclusive)
- For a degree with Second Class Honours Division 2, the weighted average mark must be between 65.00 and 74.99 (inclusive)
- For a degree with Third Class Honours, the weighted average mark must be between 50.00 and 64.99 (inclusive)
A university medal may be awarded to business honours graduating student who has demonstrated exceptional merit.

Graduation
Students need to ensure they are aware of the essential graduation information, ceremony schedule and registration timelines that the university communicates to graduands via their UTS email account or other contact details provided in My Student Admin. Failure to update contact details or read notifications are not accepted as reasons for being unaware of matters so notified (see rule 2.3).
