Nursing

Nursing program orientation

At the Nursing Program Orientation, you will obtain essential information about your course and be familiarised with contacts in your faculty, such as the Associate Dean Teaching and Learning, Course Directors, Subject Coordinators, and the Academic Liaison Officer. You will also learn about the particular resources in the Faculty of Health to support your learning, like the online learning platform, Canvas.

Studying at university is very different to high school or TAFE.  In this orientation we will explore subject expectations, marking matrices and referencing and provide you with further resources.  We will also explore what it is to be a nurse and introduce you to the profession of nursing. You will get to know us and each other a little better.

Clinical placement orientation

All you need to know about the how, when and where of clinical placement is included in this session. What to expect and what is expected of you to fulfil this aspect of your degree is discussed. You will meet key people who will guide you through this process and hear about the Clinical Practice Unit (CPU).  This session will also introduce you to the online placement system called MyPlacement, and run through how to meet compliance requirements for a smooth introduction to clinical placements. Find out about what placement locations are available and ask questions about how placements are allocated.

Nursing practice labs orientation

This session will introduce you to the Nursing Clinical Practice Laboratories, computer and study facilities available to nursing students at UTS.  The Clinical Practice Laboratories are designed as flexible learning spaces. Scrub rooms open onto clinical spaces furnished with patient beds and a wide variety of medical equipment. From the start of your degree, you will become familiar with clinical practice environments, with labs that are purpose-built to simulate real hospital settings.

Midwifery

Faculty welcome

At the Faculty Welcome, you will gain information about the Faculty of Health and be familiarised with contacts in your faculty, such as the Dean, Directors of Programs and Academic Liaison Officer. This session is not compulsory, but you are welcome to register and attend.

Welcome to Midwifery (attendance is mandatory, as timetabled in Week 1 of Autumn session)

Welcome to Midwifery: Making a difference everyday

Congratulations on choosing to become a midwife, a unique profession where you will use your head, your hands and your heart.  In this session we will explore the qualities of being a midwife, what it is to be a midwife and introduce you to the midwifery profession.

Introducing the midwifery teaching team

The midwifery teaching team will attend Welcome to Midwifery sessions so you can meet them and learn all about what brought them to UTS.

Overview of the UTS online learning platform, Canvas

Over the course of Welcome Week, all your Autumn subjects will be introduced and we will explore how to use Canvas. All your questions will be answered!

Everything you need to know about clinical placement: Essential information

All you need to know about the how, when and where of clinical placement, what to wear, what to expect and what is expected of you to fulfil this aspect of your degree. Meet key people who will guide you through this process and hear about the role and function of Clinical Practice Unit (CPU). You will also be introduced to the online clinical placement system, MyPlacement.

Getting to know each other

Throughout the day there will be times and group activities designed for you to get to know your fellow midwifery students and your lecturers.  You will also spend time listening to and asking questions of third year Bachelor of Midwifery students to get ‘tips’ for beginning your course.

And so much more...

Tour our library, visit our clinical simulation laboratories, learn where to get support with academic writing, join our peak midwifery professional body, get tips on wellbeing at university and more!
