FAQs
Why have changes been made to the Master of Teaching program?
The changes have been made to the Master of Teaching in Secondary Education to accommodate the NEW undergraduate secondary teaching program. The changes to the program have also been made to provide more flexibility for those students wishing to graduate with a second specialist curriculum area.
Do I have to move to the new course?
No. You can remain in your current course. Most subjects are still being offered until the last expected offering according to recommended subject sequencing plan. You will be notified by the School when the subjects will be last offered. Any subjects that require substitution will be completed on your study plan. Please review the subject substitution list (PDF, KB) for more detail.
How does the new course compare to old course? Are there any benefits to me moving?
From 2021, there will be three (3) Teaching Methods subjects, seven (7) Core and two (2) Professional Experience subjects as well as four (4) Electives. This program change is to enable students to undertake a second curriculum area.
If I move to the new course, will all of my previous study be credited?
It is likely that most (if not all) of your previous study will be credited.
If I move to the new course, will there be any difference in fees?
If you are moving to the new course, as a domestic student, you will continue to be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP). This means the Australian government is still making contribution towards the cost of your study and you will continue to pay the balance called student contribution rate as per your current course.
If you are moving to the new course as an international student you will still be charged a fee for each subject you enrol in, including repeated subjects. If your student visa will expire before you complete your new course, you will need to apply for a new CoE and a new student visa. For information, please click here. Please contact internationalstudent@uts.edu.au if you have further questions.
I’ve only just commenced my Master of Teaching / I’ve only completed a few subjects. Do you recommend I move to the new course?
It is recommended for you to move into the new course if you haven’t completed many subjects and are due to complete your course after 2021.
I’ve almost finished my Master of Teaching in Secondary Education. Do you recommend I remain in my current course?
Yes, it is recommended for you to remain in your current version of the Master of Teaching in Secondary Education as some newer subjects will not be offered until after your expected course completion date. Changing to the new course is likely to extend your course completion date.
What do I need to do if I want to move to the new course?
If you’re currently studying in the Master of Teaching in Secondary Education, you may be able to submit an Internal Course Transfer Application to move to the new Master of Teaching in Secondary Education. However, this could result in an extension of your course completion date as there are some new subjects that haven’t run before.
All students that transfer across to the new course must complete the new subjects. This applies to both domestic and international students.
Do I need to do anything if I want to remain in the same course?
No, no further action from you is required. Continue to enrol into the subjects as per your recommended course program.
If I remain in the same course, can I still get my provisional teacher accreditation or is my qualification outdated?
If you remain in the same course, you can still get your provisional teacher accreditation. Your qualification is not outdated.
Will all of my chosen electives be available from 2021 onwards?
