What you’ll study
You’ll study the diagnosis and management of a variety of eye disorders in children and adults. You will develop a solid understanding of eye anatomy and physiology, ophthalmics, diagnostics, therapeutics and orthoptic clinical practice, guided by internationally acclaimed academic researchers and practitioners.
You’ll also undertake clinical placements at a range of sites, including hospitals, private practices and rehabilitation settings, with the opportunity to experience clinical placement in international, interstate or regional areas. You’ll graduate with a comprehensive foundation in orthoptics, ready to apply for registration and begin your career.

First year
You’ll study the anatomy of the eye and visual system, optics, binocular vision and visual perceptions. You’ll discover the pathological processes of ocular diseases and learn how to take an evidence-based approach to treatment, including eye therapy techniques. -
Second year
In your final year, you’ll take on complex topics, including neuro-ophthalmic disorders and advanced orthoptic practice. You’ll learn about visual rehabilitation strategies and assistive technologies for individuals with low vision before consolidating your learning in your final clinical placements.
