Students who do not meet the admission requirements below may begin with the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma and progress to the Master of Landscape Architecture.

Commonwealth Supported Places

There are a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available in this course, which are competitive and awarded based on merit. To be considered for a CSP, applicants must:

  • Indicate their interest in a CSP on their application.
  • Apply on time in line with CSP deadlines (it is recommended applicants apply early as applications are assessed progressively).

Eligible applicants must accept their offer by the lapse date to retain their place. For application deadlines and information, please refer to Postgraduate courses with Commonwealth Supported Places.

Study Landscape Architecture 

Landscape Architecture is at the forefront of the pressing issues of our time, including climate adaptation, equitable access to healthy landscapes, biodiversity and species decline. Combining design thinking and scientific knowledge, the Master of Landscape Architecture welcomes students from diverse backgrounds looking to broaden their expertise or pursue a new career.  

With a focus on nature-based design projects that positively impact the quality and experience of everyday life in our cities and regions, this course enables you to reimagine landscape as an infrastructure for urban living. You’ll be exposed to cutting-edge methodologies, tools and technologies, and graduate well-equipped to take on contemporary issues through a broad understanding of landscape and its design.

What you’ll study

Designed to be completed in two years full-time, this course is available to individuals with a relevant degree at an undergraduate level or higher. The course focuses on studio teaching, emphasising connections to real places and their stakeholders.  

You’ll develop the advocacy, professional and research skills needed to enhance your designs, ensuring you can respond creatively to complex problems. You’ll also get to complete your choice of electives on a range of topics, including international design study tours.

  1. First year

    From exposure to leading practitioners in landscape architecture and architecture in semester one, you learn why contemporary design needs integrated responses. Your second semester studio project and supporting seminar address the theory and practice of design research, providing the basis for critical and innovative landscape architecture.
  2. Second year

    Develop skills in design research and an integrated approach to contemporary issues through a yearlong thesis project. This gives you the opportunity to address an issue of personal importance, drawing on your previous experience and future career aims.

With contemporary practice, theory and precedent, this program gives you the chance to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to create designs that address the issues of the day. Drawing on related fields and practices, this course is designed to help you understand the interests of your future collaborators. 

Industry accreditation

This accredited degree ensures you can practice landscape architecture upon graduation, ready to begin your professional pathways towards registration with support from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA).
