What you’ll study
This degree will strengthen your knowledge of exercise medicine across the health spectrum, including the application of evidence-based exercise programs to prevent, treat, and manage individual health conditions, injuries, and/or disabilities. You'll learn about a variety of health conditions, from neurological disorders (including spinal cord injuries and Parkinson's disease), musculoskeletal conditions (including injury rehabilitation, occupational rehabilitation, and osteoporosis), severe mental health illnesses (such as Schizophrenia), cardiometabolic diseases (including diabetes and chronic heart failure), cancer, and much more.
Crucially, this course places a strong emphasis on ensuring you are equipped to provide care to clinical clients in line with best practice, including training on cultural sensitivity, understanding trauma, focusing on recovery and taking a strength-based approach.
Highly applied, you'll get many opportunities to put your learning into practice, with 360 hours of clinical placement built into your course. This will ensure you graduate with the competence and confidence you need to deliver evidence-informed exercise interventions in a range of clinical settings.

First year
You’ll undertake core subjects that will support your seamless transition from undergraduate education or prior learning to ensure knowledge is applied in clinical contexts, while ensuring effective clinical communication and engagement with diverse populations. You will also build your knowledge of applied clinical exercise physiology and how to use it to treat people living with diverse health conditions. You’ll benefit from experiential learning in the UTS Exercise Physiology Clinic. -
Second year
Your final six months of study will see you acquire invaluable hands-on experience through clinical placements. You'll also hone your professional and interprofessional skills in preparation for graduation, studying collaborative care, complex case management (including for people with multimorbidity), and clinical leadership.
