Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology

Applications close 28 January 2024. However, applications may close earlier (without notice) based on the volume of applications received. It is recommended to apply early as applications and eligibility will be assessed on a rolling basis.

Applicants are welcome to apply in the final session of their qualifying degree. If successful, applicants may receive a conditional offer pending the successful completion of their qualifying degree and/or any other conditions.

It is important to note that meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place in the course.

Commonwealth Supported Places

There are a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available in this course, which are competitive and awarded based on merit. To be considered for a CSP, applicants must:

  • Indicate their interest in a CSP on their application.
  • Apply on time in line with CSP deadlines (it is recommended applicants apply early as applications are assessed progressively).

Eligible applicants must accept their offer by the lapse date to retain their place. Please note that due to the competitive nature of the course, applicants may not receive their CSP outcome until commencement of Autumn B session.

What you’ll study

This degree will strengthen your knowledge of exercise medicine across the health spectrum, including the application of evidence-based exercise programs to prevent, treat, and manage individual health conditions, injuries, and/or disabilities. You'll learn about a variety of health conditions, from neurological disorders (including spinal cord injuries and Parkinson's disease), musculoskeletal conditions (including injury rehabilitation, occupational rehabilitation, and osteoporosis), severe mental health illnesses (such as Schizophrenia), cardiometabolic diseases (including diabetes and chronic heart failure), cancer, and much more. 

Crucially, this course places a strong emphasis on ensuring you are equipped to provide care to clinical clients in line with best practice, including training on cultural sensitivity, understanding trauma, focusing on recovery and taking a strength-based approach. 

Highly applied, you'll get many opportunities to put your learning into practice, with 360 hours of clinical placement built into your course. This will ensure you graduate with the competence and confidence you need to deliver evidence-informed exercise interventions in a range of clinical settings.

    core Clinical Exercise Physiology subjects
  1. First year

    You’ll undertake core subjects that will support your seamless transition from undergraduate education or prior learning to ensure knowledge is applied in clinical contexts, while ensuring effective clinical communication and engagement with diverse populations. You will also build your knowledge of applied clinical exercise physiology and how to use it to treat people living with diverse health conditions. You’ll benefit from experiential learning in the UTS Exercise Physiology Clinic.
  2. Second year

    Your final six months of study will see you acquire invaluable hands-on experience through clinical placements. You'll also hone your professional and interprofessional skills in preparation for graduation, studying collaborative care, complex case management (including for people with multimorbidity), and clinical leadership.

Course highlights

In this course we will teach you  the advanced professional capabilities you need to provide safe and effective exercise-based treatments to individuals in diverse clinical and sub-clinical settings. This course aims to show you how to design, deploy and measure the success of interventions to address a wide array of health conditions and concerns. 

Industry accreditation

The UTS Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology has received qualifying accreditation and has been submitted for full accreditation with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA), the sole accrediting organisation for clinical exercise physiologists in Australia.
