This is an easily accessible collection of SDS that:

  • make supplier's SDS easily accessible to the chemical user (legal requirement),
  • reduce effort during chemical procurement, since the purchaser does not need to obtain an SDS every single time they order a substance,
  • replace large collections of hardcopy SDS in laboratories and workshops.

Anyone at UTS can search for Safety Data Sheets without logging in. Note that this webapp is only available within UTS.

This webapp works well with mobile devices. We recommend using on your laboratory or workshop tablet.

Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Collection

Search for an SDS

Either:

  • type the name or part of the name in the search box
  • type the CAS number into the search box
  • sort the column by clicking on the column header

Upload an SDS

You can request permission to upload a SDS via email at safetyandwellbeing@uts.edu.au.

  • First obtain a PDF of the Safety Data Sheet from the supplier and save to your computer.
  • Login to SDS Collection.
  • Click the Upload an SDS button and copy the following information from your SDS into the form.
    • Substance Name - is the main product identifier on the SDS.
    • CAS number - found in section 3 of the SDS.
    • Vendor - or supplier, is the company the substance was purchased from
    • Published - publish date (aka Creation Date or Revision Date) is the date the SDS was last reviewed by the supplier and is usually found in header or footer of the SDS.
  •  Attach the PDF of your SDS and click Save. Note: the uploaded SDS must be in PDF format.

This information allows you to search for SDS later.

The publish date is used to expire the SDS after 5 years.

The person who uploads an SDS can then edit, delete and replace that SDS at any time.

Technical Notes

  • This WebApp is only accessible within UTS IP range
  • Generic SDS (e.g. Chemwatch) do not satisfy our obligation under the legislation, the SDS must be obtained from the supplier. Suppliers have a legal obligation to provide us with a current SDS.
  • When an SDS expires after 5 years, it’s listing is greyed out, but it is still readable.  Expired SDS must be replaced.

Acknowledgement of Country
