Bidjigal Cultural Arts Workshop
We put together a Cultural Arts group to bring young and old together to learn and share different Cultural Practices. The idea came from a workshop we did with the La Perouse Elders back in 2021. The Bidjigal Cultural workshop has been going since January 2023 with the Support of Randwick Council, UTS Jumbunna and Mailing Productions. We hold this workshop every second Friday. We are called Bidjigal Cultural Arts group because we are based on Bidjigal Land although our Groups are made up of women who come from different nations across Australia. Our women have been participating in different activities such as Weaving, Jewellery making, wood burning, burning, creating possum skin cloaks, sewing and much more. Our main project at our workshop was a group collaboration shell work of the Australain Map which has all Aboriginal Nations. Shell work is well known in the La Perouse community. We were taught by our Bidjigal Elder Aunty Barb this art of shell work while we learn stories from her about the stories of her country.
