About the programs

Our Industry Doctorate Program (IDP) and Collaborative Doctoral Research Degree Program provide a platform for professionals, researchers, and organisations to engage in transformative research that shapes industries and societies.

  • Industry Doctorate Program (IDP): A structured, 3–4-year PhD program in which industry partners define a research problem, enabling organisations and professionals to cultivate innovation.
  • Collaborative Doctoral Research Degree: Candidates undertake PhDs jointly supervised by UTS and an international partner, gaining global perspectives and expertise across two institutions.

Program structure

Each program offers flexibility, allowing candidates to conduct research both at UTS and in industry or a partner university setting.

  • IDP: Includes tangible deliverables (e.g., patents, business models) tailored to the organisation’s needs.
  • Collaborative Doctorate: Requires candidates to spend significant time at both institutions, without extending degree completion time.

Eligibility

Open to candidates from diverse sectors and backgrounds, including industry professionals, new researchers, and international candidates. Admission is based on UTS requirements, with professional experience taken into consideration.

How to apply

For both programs, begin by contacting the Graduate Research School to discuss eligibility and application requirements.
