Cycling is a great way to get to uni!
Cycling
There is no spoken word.
This video gives a brief visual of the annual Ride to UTS day event held in 2017.
Cyclists arrive individually at UTS, sign-in at the reception desk, help themselves to free breakfast, and socialise and chat.
Each year cycling is celebrated with Ride to UTS Day in October with free breakfast, competitions and great prizes. This year it's Wednesday 18 October.
Bike parking around campus
Some of the best spots are indoors.
- Ross Milbourne Sports Hall, (CB04B), enter via level 1, building 4, off Harris St
- Harris St, corner of Thomas St, near the gym entrance of building 4
- Building 10 (CB10), in carpark, via Thomas St (secure cage)
- Building 6, racks on The Goods Line near building rear entrance
- Haymarket, building 5, block A (CM05A) off Darling drive (secure cage)
- Haymarket, building 5, block B (CM05B), racks at entrance doors
- Dr Chau Chak Wing building, underground (secure cage) and also on Mary Anne St footpath
Access to the secure cage parking is free for all students and staff. Visit the security office on level 4 of building 1 to activate your student/staff card for access. Also see bike security advice from NSW police.
Social events
There is a cycling society who organise social rides and events. See UTS Cycling Society on Facebook.
There are plenty of places to park your bike around campus, along with change rooms, showers, and lockers.
Some of the best spots are undercover. Like the Hub under Building 10 with indoor access to the Engineering and IT building next door. Enter via the car park entrance on Thomas St.
To activate your student or staff card for access, see the main security office in the foyer of the Tower building. For a locker, email Central Services.
The Dr Chau Chak Wing Building has similar facilities, with undercover parking, changerooms, and lockers.
The Sports Hall also has indoor parking. Enter through building 4 on the corner of Harris and Thomas Streets, and follow the signs.
If full there is street parking on the footpath outside the Chinese Medicine centre. Riders can use the change rooms in the sports hall on the lower level beside the playing courts.
On Harris St, park outside the gym with easy access to Building 4, and cross at the lights if you’re heading to Building 6.
There is also a rack out the back of Building 6 on the Goods Line.
If you’re down at Building 5, there is street parking outside the library, or even better, off street parking right beside the doors of Buildings 5B and 5C.
For secure parking in Building 5, with double door pin access and cameras, enter off Darling Drive. Again, see security to organise access. There are showers and lockers nearby, and see the UTS Activate counter in the newsagency on the ground floor about these lockers.
All indoor bike parking areas have security cameras and bike pumps.
So with all these options, don’t risk your own safety or your bike’s by parking in dumb places like disabled ramps, or too close to moving traffic. It’s not worth the risk. Ride safe, park safe, and enjoy the trip.
Bike maintenance
There is a bike maintenance station in the CB10 bike cage. Alternatively, Wheely Convenient is a professional bike mechanic service offering a range of services in Chippendale, within easy walking distance of the main campus.
Lockers and showers
See our online maps for parking, shower and locker locations. Some shower and locker rooms require card access, see UTS security at CB01.04 to arrange access if necessary.
