The Indigenous Academic Development Program seeks to match academic students with potential areas of employment at UTS in teaching, research, or teaching and research role related to the academic student’s area of research or discipline.
Indigenous Academic Development Program
All postgraduate students, not only Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, are eligible to apply.
In particular, the Higher Degree by Research (HDR) student is selected on the basis of their suitability to progress into a career as an academic member of staff.
- Ideally, an HDR student will need to have passed ‘Stage 1 Milestone – Confirmation of Candidature’ to be eligible for appointment.
- The student can work as an academic to a 0.2 (1 day per week) or 0.4 (2 days per week) on a part-time, fixed-term academic contract for the duration of their PhD or Masters by Research or postgraduate coursework.
- The student will be employed as an academic in a UTS Faculty, Academic Unit/Department or Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research and will have the opportunity to teach and/or undertake research, depending on the Faculty’s requirements and/or the research student’s professional and discipline interests.
- Where relevant, mentor other Indigenous students.
Applications for the Indigenous Academic Development Program are reviewed all year round as per funding availability.
