UTS is participating in Hacking for National Security (H4NS) the official Australian version of the highly successful Hacking for Defense® program in the United States and Hacking for MOD in the United Kingdom.

Hacking for National Security
Collaborating with the Common Mission Project Australia, the UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT is offering the Hacking for National Security (H4NS) program to develop the problem solving skills of FEIT students.
Students in the program will have the opportunity to learn and apply Lean Start-up Methodology to solve real defence and national security problems whilst working with a government sponsor who owns the problem.
This program promotes close engagement with the government and industry and connects participating students to professional networks.
Project eligibility
- Individual student who enjoys working in a team environment
- Students currently enrolled with the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology
- Students with Australian citizenship or permanent residency

Shall I apply individually or as a team?
An entry is made by an individual student. Once you are selected, you will be assigned to a team comprising 4 — 5 students.
When will the training start?
Not offered anymore.
How long is the training each week?
This program provides training for 1.5 hours each week for ten weeks.
Selection criteria
- Commitment to 10 weeks of training and active participation.
- Overall fit of student’s skills, knowledge and experience for team formation with emphasis on the following potentials:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- A disposition that favours testing and evidence-based decision making
- Sustained drive to succeed in the face of challenges
- Ability and eagerness to take on a high workload
- Interest in alternative ways of learning
