About Maths Inside
“Maths Inside” is a collaborative project funded by the Federal Government under the AMSPP (Australian Maths and Science Partnerships Program) competitive grants scheme and administered by a UTS cross-faculty team at UTS.
Our cross-faculty team has collaborated with CSIRO and AAMT (The Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers) to plan the project, which addresses the urgent need for more engagement in mathematics (and science) by Australian students.
Currently, students are opting out of higher levels of mathematics and reports have highlighted the importance of providing quality school experiences in mathematics to raise awareness of the career opportunities and personal relevance of mathematics. The “Maths Inside” project aims to address both of these issues.
The Maths Inside project achievements so far include:
- Nine videos and forty classroom-ready lesson activities aligned with the Australian Curriculum
- Over 2300 teachers and students engaging with our resources
- Resources trialled in over 50 schools and colleges
- Over 2000 evaluation responses by students and teachers
- Project resources well received by participants
- “Pathways to Maths” online resource for university mathematics preparation and career guidance
- Impact through conference dissemination, research publications
- Positive changes in practice through accredited professional learning.
