UTS aims to provide equitable access to university education and support for all students to reach their full personal and career potential.
The following programs are run by the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion to help prevent discrimination and harassment:
- The Ally program celebrates and supports sexual and gender diversity at UTS.
- SHOUTS stands for Sex-based Harassment, discrimination and bullying Out of UTS. Includes downloadable posters.
- UTS Human Rights Awards – these biennial awards celebrate the social justice and human rights work of UTS staff and students.
- Inclusive language and diversity - resources for using non-discriminatory language that doesn’t exclude or show prejudice towards a particular group.
- Equity-related policies, statements and strategies includes ‘Accommodating students with disabilities in fieldwork,’ and the ‘Widening Participation Strategy.’
- Information for students with carers’ responsibilities offershelp and support for dealing with carer responsibilities which have the potential to impact on studies.
Further information about preventing discrimination and harassment is available and students who feel they are experiencing either should seek advice from the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion (if the complaint relates to unlawful harassment), or Counselling service. The Students Association also provides advice and advocacy for students.
Appeals and complaints
See Complaints & Grievances if you believe you are being discriminated in your study or work because of your:
- sex (including pregnancy),
- sexual preference,
- transgender status,
- race,
- colour,
- ethnic or ethno-religious background,
- descent or national identity,
- marital status,
- disability,
- age,
- political conviction, or
- religious belief.
Refer to non-equity-related complaints for complaints that do not involve any of the above.
Students with a disability or ongoing illness
- UTS AccessAbility – student perspectives on UTS life for students with disabilities or ongoing illness, from the practical to the creative.
- Accessibility facilities – on-campus accessible parking, toilets, lecture halls and teaching spaces.
- Mental health and wellbeing resources – Information, resources and support on maintaining mental wellbeing. Includes discussions and resources on mental health, counselling, dealing with anxiety and depression, as well as a list of available help and helpful websites.
- Disability action plan – UTS strategies for providing equitable learning and employment opportunities; an inclusive physical and virtual university environment; and for promoting inclusive practices to the university community.
