What is the UTS Mathematics and Science Study Centre?

Most UTS courses do not have prerequisites, however, there is an “assumed knowledge” requirement for many quantitative subjects - that is, a student is assumed to have the level of knowledge required to pass the relevant subject in the HSC. The MSSC assists in narrowing this gap between high school and university studies by providing support in introductory mathematical and quantitative areas including statistics and selected first-year science subjects.

Drop-in room

On campus

• Building 4, Level 3 room CB04.03.331
• Academic staff members are available at the scheduled timetable for personal tutorial assistance or any mathematical/science study-related issues. Just “drop in”, bring a question, and a tutor on duty is there to help.
• No appointment is required, and the service is free for all UTS students.
• The Drop-in room is helpful around tests and exam time. Whenever you are ready to seek academic help, please come and see our friendly teachers – there is no judgement, just have a one-to-one conversation with our friendly staff about your maths/stats/science problem.

Timetable for drop-in room 

The mathematics and statistics tutors are available on weekdays during Autumn 2025 teaching weeks. The MSSC is closed during StuVac and public holidays. 

Regular subjects and subject consultations are scheduled for the entire Autumn 2025 semester.

From 12pm till 6pm weekdays, the room can be used as a quiet study room when not otherwise being used.

We have put a touch-free sanitiser at the entire building 4 as requested. Cleaning/Sanitising: 

1. All classrooms and theatres are given a full clean each morning, & touch points including lecterns, chairs, tables & door push plates are wiped with sanitiser; 
2. All touch points in public spaces are given constant sanitising during the day.  The number of times touch points are sanitised depends on the level of traffic in the area, but it will be up to 4 times in busy areas.  This includes all lift buttons, switches, railings, public spaces chairs and tables etc.; 
3. Bathrooms are given a full clean each morning and cleaners repeat the sanitising of touch surfaces i.e. taps, soap dispensers, benches and flush buttons up to 4 times per day; 
4. All classrooms will have a large sanitising wipes dispenser located in close proximity to room entrances for students and lecturers to wipe lecterns, desks and chairs if desired prior to each class; 
5. All computer labs will have a large dispenser fitted inside the lab for students and lecturers to wipe mice and keyboards, chairs and tables; 
6. All building entrances, foyers and student-facing areas in public podium spaces are supplied with touch-free sanitising dispensers; 
7. All staff and students are still expected to use washing of hands as the primary means of minimising risk, with sanitising wipes and gels as additional protection.
