Limited ATAR

Using your Limited ATAR to apply

Limited ATARs are considered for entry to nearly all UTS courses.

Find out what a Limited ATAR is.

What is a Limited ATAR?

A Limited Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is calculated from your best 5 units of HSC courses completed, rather than the 10 used for the standard ATAR.

If you didn’t finish high school or get an ATAR, you may consider obtaining a Limited ATAR.

Who is eligible for a Limited ATAR?

From 2025 to be eligible for a Limited ATAR you must meet both of the following conditions:

  • be at least 20 years of age on the year you finish your HSC studies
  • be taking between 5 and 9 units of ATAR courses, including at least 1 unit of an English course.

How is a Limited ATAR calculated?

A Limited ATAR is calculated using scaled marks from ATAR courses and is made up of:

  • at least one unit of English
  • the best 4 other units of courses.

All units must be completed in the same year.

How can I apply using a Limited ATAR?

To apply with a Limited ATAR, you must:

  1. Apply to UAC to receive a Limited ATAR.
  2. Once you’ve received your Limited ATAR, you can apply to UTS through UAC. Visit domestic undergraduate applications for information on how to apply.

What courses do not accept a Limited ATAR application?

A Limited ATAR will not be considered for entry to scholarship and accelerated nursing courses.

What is the Limited ATAR eligibility and how is it calculated in 2024?

Eligibility and calculation of Limited ATARs are different in 2024 than 2025 – visit ATAR eligibility for more information.
