As a UTS student you have the right to:

  • appeal against certain administrative and academic decisions taken by the university
  • lodge a complaint if you feel you have been wrongly treated by the university or specific staff members.

Note: Complaints that are the subject of an appeal will usually be dealt with at the end of the appeal of the administrative or academic decision.

What is an appeal?

Appeals are formal opportunities to have an academic or administrative decision reconsidered by the university. For example, you can lodge an appeal that is related to fees, student misconduct, academic results, cancellation or suspension of enrolment and issues around visa status.

What is a complaint?

Complaints can be made about things related to your experience at UTS. For example, you might make a complaint about the content of your course, UTS facilities, administrative issues or your interactions with staff.

Advice and support

The Student Services Unit can provide advice and assistance through these services:

  • Counselling service for confidential counselling to help with a wide range of personal, psychological, study-related and administrative difficulties.
  • Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion for assistance with unlawful discrimination and harassment.
  • Financial Assistance Service for advice and assistance on financial matters.
  • UTS Housing Service for issues around UTS student residences.
  • Careers for career-related issues.

For advice and advocacy in relation to appeals, contact the Students' Association.

Be sure to familiarise yourself with your rights and responsibilities as a student at UTS.

International students should familiarise themselves with the relevant rights and responsibilities as international students.
