Active learning
- Try to be an ‘Active’ learner throughout your studies. You’re obviously at the Business School to ‘learn’ and develop new skills, abilities and broaden and develop new ways of thinking.
- The overriding emphasis is on you to be ‘an independent learner’ who will ‘seek out, evaluate and question’ the information and answers for yourself. So in class, ensure you ask questions, make comments, be constructive and overall, if you need help or need to clarify your learning…ASK!
- The other way to be an 'active learner' is to be actively engaged with your learning by 'reading around the subject' , discussing it and making time to review and summarise what's already been taught.
- Remember it's very important to make time to review and summarise previous content and subject material from your lectures and tutorials. It can also be helpful to have informal discussions with your peers, classmates and tutors on what you've learnt and things that you're currently struggling with. In this 'collaborative mode' you can gain further insights and clarification into your subject discipline which can really aid your understanding and academic performance.
