If you are a UTS student experiencing sexual harm or GBV, or you are concerned about a student experiencing sexual harm or GBV, the following support options are available.
- You can contact the UTS sexual harm support line on 1800 531 626, staffed by professionally trained, trauma-informed safety caseworkers, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (UTS Security will connect you with support out of these hours)
- You can book an appointment with a safety caseworker via the Student Services Unit (call (02) 9514 1177 or email safety.caseworker@uts.edu.au)
- You can lodge an online report (this may be done anonymously).
Other UTS support services
- UTS Counselling Service is a free and confidential support service for students from professionals experienced in responding to sexual harm. Counsellors can help with both personal and academic support.
- UTS Health Service has doctors available on campus to help with any health issues (not including forensic examinations). Medical services are provided in a caring, safe and confidential space for staff, students and members of the community.
- UTS Student Legal Service is a free, confidential legal advice service provided by the Students’ Association for students.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free, confidential counselling and coaching service for staff and their immediate family members.
What to do if you have experienced sexual harm
Community support services
- Full Stop Australia (NSW Sexual Violence Helpline) (opens an external site) offers confidential, trauma specialist counselling for people of all genders who are impacted by violence and abuse, as well as their friends, colleagues and family members. They’re available 24 hours a day, telephone 1800 FULL STOP (1800 385 578) and online chat.
- NSW Health Sexual Assault Services (opens an external site) offers free information, counselling, court support, medical treatment and forensic examinations at various locations in NSW. A full list of NSW Health Sexual Assault Services is available at NSW Health.
- Victims Support Scheme (opens an external site) is a NSW government initiative providing counselling, financial support and a recognition payment to victims of a violent crime.
Support for image-based abuse
- Report image-based abuse to the eSafety Commissioner for incidents of sexual harm that have occurred online, via social media or in another virtual space.
Support for Indigenous women
- Mudgin-Gal: Women’s Place (opens an external site) is an Aboriginal service staffed and managed by Aboriginal women and provides free confidential legal advice for a number of areas including sexual assault and victim support.
Support for young people
- Twenty10 (opens an external site) is a Sydney-based service that provides a broad range of specialised services for young people including housing, mental health, counselling and social support.
Support for all genders
- The Gender Centre (opens an external site) provides a professional psychological service to the transgender and gender questioning community.
- Another Closet (opens an external site) provides information and support for people in LGBTIQ relationships who are, or may be, experiencing domestic and family violence.
- Mensline Australia (opens an external site) is a dedicated service for men with relationship and family concerns.
- Survivors and Mates Support Network (opens an external site) helps men coping with the effects of childhood sexual abuse with psychologist-led, facilitated peer-support groups based in Sydney.
