Clinical placement – reasonable accommodations
UTS will make reasonable adjustments to teaching and learning, assessment, clinical placements to facilitate the maximum participation by students with disabilities, carer responsibilities, and religious or cultural obligations in the Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery.
These are adjustments that can be made to your placement due to outside commitments that are beyond your control.
Adjustments could be:
- Shifts at certain times of the day/ or avoiding certain days
- Placement that is close to home
We will always do our best to accommodate your needs when approved. However, we are limited by what placements are available for us to use.
Who is eligible
You may be eligible if you:
- Have primary-carer commitments
- Are pregnant
- Have religious or cultural requirements
- Have commitments as an elite athlete or performer
- Have a significant one-off family commitment to attend such as a funeral or wedding.
Reasons that won’t be accepted include, but are not limited to:
- Holiday or travel plans
- Work commitments (volunteer or paid)
- Difficulties with transport (such as not having access to a car).
How to apply
Complete the Request for Placement Provisions form on the MyPlacement system. You'll also need to have registered with the Accessibility Service at the start of the semester.
Applications must be received before the advertised cut-off date. Late applications won’t be accepted.
While all efforts will be made to grant eligible requests, it's subject to:
- The availability of placements in healthcare facilities
- The availability of places in the healthcare facility you're assigned to
- Limitations the facility has for the provision of shifts at certain times of the day
- The availability of placements provided to UTS.
Prior provisions
If you were granted reasonable clinical placement provisions for your first placement it does not mean that you will automatically receive it again. In most cases, you will need to reapply for each clinical subject you’re about to commence.
