Absences on clinical placement
If you are unable to attend your clinical placement or you miss one or more days of your placement due to misadventure, you must apply for Special Consideration.
Acceptable reasons for missing a placement
- Illness
- Misadventure
- Loss or bereavement
- Hardship or trauma
- Exceptional employment demands.
When absent from clinical placement, ensure you:
- Contact your Clinical Facilitator via text prior to your shift commencing
- Contact the ward / facility via phone prior to your shift commencing
- Contact the Clinical Practice Unit (CPU) via email health.clinical.practice@uts.edu.au and notify them of your absence. They will email you instructions on how to complete your Special Consideration Application.
- Apply for Special Consideration within 5 working days of the missed placement hours. If you require assistance applying, please contact Student Centre.
- If your absence relates to illness, download the Professional Authority (PA) form and ensure your GP completes this. Then upload the form into the Special Consideration Process System
- If your absence is non-medical, complete a Statutory Declaration or provide appropriate supporting evidence.
- Special consideration applications for clinical placement will be assessed by the Manager, Clinical Liaison in consultation with your subject coordinator and you will be notified of you’re the outcome via your UTS email account.
Failure to submit special consideration may impact your placement outcome.
