Organisation: Salvation Army Legal Humanitarian
Salvo’s Legal Humanitarian is a not-for-profit legal aid service with a huge emphasis on giving free legal advice and representation to refugees and other disadvantaged members of the community who would otherwise go unassisted due to their financial situations. My role utilised my Legal Studies major as a practical tool in assisting the clients and lawyers to gain a better understanding into legal matters in my capacity as a paralegal. More so than being a paralegal there, I was a listener to the plight of refugees and the disadvantaged, empowering me to help give them a voice to stand up and advocate for their rights regardless of their status.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Global Studies complete either a domestic or international internship as part of their degree, which enables them to gain practical work experience, applying their skills and knowledge. Featured are some of our Global Studies students who have shared their experiences undertaking domestic internships in Sydney across a range of sectors and industries.
