Organisation: UTS Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion
My internship with the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion at UTS was one of the best experiences of my three years at university and my degree as a whole. It not only solidified my desire to work for organisations that had disadvantaged people and the vulnerable at the centre of their vision and mission but also brought to life everything I had learned in my Global Studies degree. My role as an intern involved me researching and writing a report on refugee employment services and support programs.
This allowed me to truly understand not only the plight of refugees but also the effects current global issues have on those that have become the victims of globalisation and the global cities that become their place of refuge. Aiding the centre made me feel like I had been a part of something that would shift the lives of refugees and asylum seekers for the better.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Global Studies complete either a domestic or international internship as part of their degree, which enables them to gain practical work experience, applying their skills and knowledge. Featured are some of our Global Studies students who have shared their experiences undertaking domestic internships in Sydney across a range of sectors and industries.
