Wayfinding and accessible pathways
Wayfinding
MyUTSmaps is designed to help students, staff and visitors to UTS find where they need to go, as well as explore and discover new spaces across the City campus.
Linked directly to the university’s wayfinding (yellow directional signage), the site allows users to explore different spaces by building, or search for specific rooms and spaces by number, name or space type (for example, computer lab, cafe or collaborative study space).
To use wayfinding:
- Go to wayfinding.uts.edu.au on any mobile phone (tip: save it to your phone for easy future use) You can also access the site by scanning the QR code on any of the ‘smart signage’ around campus
- Select a building via the campus map on the landing page for an alphabetical list of rooms and spaces OR use the search function and type in a specific room number or name (ie. from your timetable)
- Search by space type (eg. computer lab, café or collaborative study space) if you don’t know the room number or just want to explore new spaces across campus
- Once a space is selected, its location is highlighted on a floor plan
Devonshire tunnel accessible pathway from Central Station to UTS
The Devonshire tunnel from Central station to the start of the Goods Line provides an accessible entry to UTS and avoids the need to cross roads. At the end of the Devonshire tunnel are some escalators that take you to UTS Building 6, level 4. The Harris St bridge can then be used to access Buildings 1, 3 and 4, as well as heading across the Alumni green to building 7, 10 and 11. You can continue down the Goods Line to Building 8.
Goods Line access
What is the most accessible pathway between the Goods Line and UTS? Or to get from Haymarket (Building 5 or 8) to the main campus?
The Goods Line begins from the end of the Devonshire tunnel (which links to Central Station). Easy entry from the start of the Goods Line to UTS is via escalators up to Building 6, providing further access links to Buildings 1, 3 & 4 as well as heading across the Alumni green to building 7, 10 and 11. You can continue down the Goods Line to Building 8.
Lifts are planned for the entry into building 6. If escalators are not accessible for you, please make use of this alternative pathway which is an interim route until the lifts are in place:
Authorised access is required for this accessible pathway. Students can request access via the Accessibility Service. You will need to contact your Accessibility Consultant to have card reader access with your Student ID card. Staff and visitors can request access from Security.
Directions:
- At the end of the Devonshire tunnel, go past the escalators on your left, approximately 20 metres.
- There are two three entrances to UTS via UTS Housing, please enter through the second third entrance.
- The third is a black metal door. With your Student ID, tap the black rectangular sensor pad card reader with a red light, located to the right of the door.
- Stay near the sensor card reader as the door opens outwardly, towards you.
- Follow to the end of the corridor.
- Enter through door marked ‘loading dock’. Push the handle downwards and the door will open automatically. There is another card reader with a red light on the right wall, about 2 meters back from the door, tap it with your Student ID.
- Turn left and continue to the end of corridor.
- Continue through doorway and turn right into Building 6, Level 2.
- Access lifts, to your left.
- Take the lift to level 4.
- Turn right, left, pass through the glass doorway then turn left to exit through the glass sliding doors and turn right to access the Harris St Bridge. There are entries off the bridge directly to Building 4, level 4 and Building 3, level 2 and the Tower building 1, level 4.
- Continue to Building 1 for continued directions and access to Buildings 7, 10 & 11.
The return route from the main campus is to take the lift in Building 6 to Level 2:
- Turn right out of the lifts, and take the next immediate right followed by a left (a small zig zag)
- Go through the door on your right, requiring access authorisation via a card reader with red light. Tap your Student ID to open the door.
- Go through the corridor and about 2 meters from the outside door on the left side of the wall is another card reader with a red light – tap your student ID to open to the door
