UARC's interactive Star Ratings Dashboard about Australia's residential aged care homes presents the Department’s Star Ratings data in an accessible, interactive visual format.
UARC Star Ratings Dashboard
The UTS Ageing Research Collaborative (UARC) has developed a new interactive Star Ratings Dashboard about Australia's residential aged care homes.
The Dashboard is free to access.
What are Star Ratings?
As part of the Government’s response to the Royal Commission, Australia now has a Star Ratings system that publishes comparable, up-to-date information about the quality of individual residential homes.
Each home is assigned an Overall Star Rating between 1 and 5 stars, and ratings for four sub-categories: resident experience, compliance with regulatory standards, direct care staffing levels, and clinical quality of care. This information is regularly updated by the Department of Health and Aged Care and published on MyAgedCare website.
The primary purpose of Star Ratings is to assist older people and their families in making more informed decisions when choosing a residential aged care home. By making quality more transparent and comparable, ratings may also stimulate competitive incentives for providers to enhance their services. Star Ratings may also allow providers to benchmark the quality of their homes across their organisation, and support policymakers and regulators in monitoring sector quality, identifying systemic issues, and tracking the implementation of reforms to improve quality across the sector.
What is the UARC Star Ratings Dashboard?
UARC’s Star Ratings Dashboard aims to complement MyAgedCare by presenting the Department’s Star Ratings data in an accessible, interactive visual format.
For example, currently, users can:
- search ratings by provider/service name
- analyse the results by provider characteristics
- view homes geographically on a map
- compare homes and providers side by side
UARC will continue to update, upgrade and expand the Dashboard, as more data is made available.
