Embedded into multidisciplinary healthcare teams you’ll counsel patients, complete home and residential aged care medication reviews and play an important role as part of the multidisciplinary primary care team.
Graduate Certificate in Advanced Pharmacy Practice
The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Pharmacy Practice will prepare you with the skills and knowledge for working as a GP pharmacist and for other roles in healthcare teams including in the aged care setting.
Developed in partnership with leading pharmacy academics and primary health network (PHN) partners, the course builds on students' professional foundation to provide specialist, comprehensive knowledge relevant to advanced pharmacy practice with a specialty focus on general practice, aged care and primary care. The course includes subjects aimed at developing skills in evidence-based practice, advanced medication management and team-based patient care.
At UTS Pharmacy, we have a really exciting new innovative program that's helping registered pharmacists get ready to become either pharmacists working in a general practice setting or in an aged care setting.
It's an advanced practice qualification that's really helping them hone their skills and knowledge so they feel ready to practice in these new exciting areas. The really exciting thing about working in general practice is you're taking your place as the medication expert in a multidisciplinary team.
You'll be assisting GPs in choosing the right medicines, and helping them review patient's medicines. You'll be educating patients and other healthcare providers and working as a drug information resource for the practice.
We've got a really evidence-based, tailored program that's really trying to give pharmacists the skills that they don't already have that will enable them to practice in this challenging but exciting environment.
Careers
Pharmacists who successfully complete the program will have the skills to further their career in varied areas including professional pharmacy services; primary health care roles; general practice pharmacist; advanced practice pharmacist; aged care pharmacist; consultancy; roles in education; government and policy roles and medication specialist roles in non-profit organisations.
The professional relationships developed as a result of the course placements will facilitate the development of professional networks and support future career opportunities for students.
Online (distance) learning
The program is delivered in a flexible mode of study to suit working pharmacists with a combination of short on-campus blocks, live and online workshops, interactive online learning and a unique advanced pharmacy practice placement subject which ensures students gain experience in advanced practice area during the course.

Clinical placement
One subject is dedicated to placement in an Advanced Pharmacy Practice setting. This allows pharmacists to experience real-world scenarios and provides scaffolded support for the development of clinical skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
