Professor Ian Kneebone
Head of Discipline, Clinical Psychology
Professor Kneebone has extensive clinical experience in Australia and the UK. His area of expertise concerns psychosocial aspects of neurological illness particularly stroke and multiple sclerosis. Professor Kneebone is in collaboration with the University of Queensland on a major NHMRC funded project on preventing depression in people with aphasia after stroke. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey, UK.
Dr David Berle
Senior Lecturer
David has worked as a clinical psychologist in a variety of community-based and inpatient mental health settings since 2001, and he has particular experience in the treatment of anxiety disorders. He has conducted numerous research projects in clinical settings and was a Senior Research Fellow in trauma and mental health in the School of Psychiatry UNSW and St John of God Health Care - Richmond hospital before commencing his current role.
Alice Shires
Clinic Director / Senior lecturer
Alice has many years of experience as a clinical psychologist both in Australia and the UK. She has been involved in teaching and supervising clinical psychologists for over 20 years. Alice has been teaching cognitive and behavioural therapies for many years and additionally has developed a keen interest in mindfulness and its integration and cognitive and behavioural therapies. She was involved in the development of accredited training in mindfulness integrated CBT (MIC BT), continues to train mental health professionals in MIC BT and has developed a mindfulness integrated therapies research clinic at UTS.
John McAloon

"In the last decade, I have worked in various settings including the public service, private practice, university education and clinical supervision. I have qualifications in Film and Television, Education and Clinical Psychology and my PhD research looked at the development of substance use and mental health in young people."
Toby Newton-John
Senior Lecturer
Toby Newton-John is a Clinical Psychologist and Senior Lecturer at UTS. He completed undergraduate psychology and postgraduate clinical psychology training at University of Sydney before moving to the UK to undertake a PhD in pain psychology at University of London. He has worked in a range of clinical health psychology settings in Australia and the UK, including inpatient and outpatient services, medical centres and private practice.
Bethany Wootton
Senior Lecturer
Dr. Wootton is a Clinical Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology in the Graduate School of Health at UTS. Clinically Dr Wootton focuses on the treatment of anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders. Dr Wootton's research primarily focuses on improving the assessment and identification of these conditions, as well as the development and evaluation of remote psychological treatments for these conditions, with the goal of improving access to evidence-based treatment for individuals with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive spectrum conditions.
