Giving imagination space
We’re vibrant, dynamic and creative — and always innovative in our perspectives. We advance the built environment through teaching and research, reaching beyond the usual structures, processes and boundaries. Our collaborative culture ensures our ideas are shaped by the conversations we share with our neighbouring design (and other academic) disciplines. Added to that, we have a distinctly global focus — one that takes you to some of the world’s diverse cities and landscapes, giving you a thorough understanding of international best practice. That means when you hit the ground after graduation, you’ll be ready to run.
When you study with UTS you’ll be challenged to extract knowledge and methods from across and between related disciplines — whether engineering or visual arts, design, filmmaking, and beyond. You’ll study alongside internationally acclaimed academic and professional leaders. And you'll work in studios, workshops, computer labs and digital maker spaces that house the very latest, industry-standard tools and technologies.
Bachelor of Design in Architecture
Shaping cities, shaping society
Reimagine the spatial, cultural and technological dimensions of the environments we live in, and learn to think through the process of design itself. Through intensive studio-based design tutorials, we’ll support you to build advanced spatial and material awareness and an understanding of what it means to be an architect in an increasingly complex and globalised world.
You’ll gain the digital and physical skills required to translate thought into form, and the critical and conceptual skills to argue for the forms you propose. What’s more, you’ll be guided by some of the best in the business, with masterclasses, workshops and international guest lectures from leading voices in contemporary architecture.

Learning the process of design at UTS has been enjoyable, mainly due to how the multimodal process of designing is taught. You start with no idea where the project will take you, however using a variety of methods including hand drawings, the creation of physical models (my favourite part), Rhino, Grasshopper, Photoshop, and Vray this scribble of a process is what realises your design.

Over my 4 years of study, the course has allowed me to challenge my creative ideas and processes across an array of project types from small sale civic centres, to botanical planting schemes and large-scale ecological frameworks. What I enjoyed most about the course, was the elective opportunities, which took me to study in Europe and Regional Australia, talking with renowned landscape professionals and connecting with their designed sites in person.
