Overview
I recommend anyone doing a research degree to join InSPiRE 2016.
I had the opportunity to attend InSPiRE 2014. It was a great experience. You not only have the opportunity to learn the knowledge that is highly relevant to you through your degree, but also a time that you socialize and share with your peers beyond your own research area. I have been able to make a number of future collaborations with my peers, not only at an academic level but also a personal level.
I am going for InSPiRE this year. Are you also going to join?

InSPiRE was a success in 2016!
The inaugural five-day InSPiRE program in 2014 was a great success and InSPiRE 2016 was even better! This event represents a collaboration of five universities: University of New South Wales, Macquarie University, University of Sydney, Western Sydney University and University of Technology Sydney, to bring an innovative and highly participative three-day researcher development program targeted specifically at Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students.
The program featured a three-day theme “Making Agility and Resourcefulness part of your Research Career”. The three days focused on HDR student career development — increasing HDR students’ ability to articulate their research impact, influence and engagement. As such, InSPiRE 2016 provided resources to help support HDR students’ research journey, develop their professional skills and prepare them for life beyond their research degree.
InSPiRE 2016 featured expert facilitators, guest speakers, interactive workshops and networking events. There were plenty of opportunities to interact with facilitators and other participants from the five universities. Students shared resources and expertise, developed new collaborations and networks that will be valuable to their future careers as an academic or as a professional in industry.
InSPiRE operates as a biennial conference and will be back bigger and better in 2018.

My name is Uche. I am a third year PhD student.
InSPiRE is the best thing that had happened to me, I would say, since I started my candidature.
Opportunity came to me to be a part of InSPiRE conference where 50 students participated from each of the university. I am about to submit my PhD thesis in a few months and I would say InSPiRE was the biggest highlights of my PhD research.
I have attended couple of conference since the InSPiRE one but I have found InSPiRE was one that is unique in style. Though I did not participate there as a presenter, I listened to speakers who talked about the different aspects of PhD and the most unique part of the conference was that I had the opportunity to meet 250 research students at a one place and to listen them talking about the different aspects of the PhD program. They talked about how to network in PhD level and the do’s and don’ts of networking.
I am planning to organise a workshop soon to talk about my PhD project and some of the participants who will attend the workshop I met them in InSPiRE. So you can see the network I have built in InSPiRE has stayed with me. I am going to advise PhD students who is in their mid-point of their PhD program and has not participated in InSPiRE yet, I would strongly encourage them to participate in and finally I would encourage every PhD student to participate in InSPiRE.
Thank you.
