Regulating Reproduction
Advances in IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technology mean that intending parents now have more options available to them when faced with infertility.
Law | Health | Justice researchers are global leaders in the regulation of reproduction, with recent work examining the experiences of Australians who travel, both internationally and within Australia, to undertake assisted reproduction.
Regulating Relations
- This empirically grounded research provides insights into the experience of end-users of law – Australians seeking fertility treatment as well as industry regulators, fertility clinics and facilitators.
- The aim of the study is to provide, and frame law reform models that are more equitable and adaptable, the impact being one which will benefit the users of fertility treatments and their families by crafting legal and ethical rules that reflect their experiences and needs and offer more diverse, flexible and adaptable laws within which to form families.
- The research documents the experiences and routes of Australian reproductive travel as well as the pathways of reproductive material (sperm, eggs, embryos) Australians are using in their quest to form their families.
- The research is funded by a 2015-2018 Australian Research Council Discovery Project grant (DP1022105).
