Institute for Biomedical Materials and Devices (IBMD) is home to world-leading facilities that enable the development of next generation processes, technologies, materials and devices for biomedical application.
Our facilities are grouped in three key areas:
Biophotonics and Biotechnology Lab
This lab houses the latest biophotonics and biotechnology devices and equipment, including:
- the only system in Australia with the capacity to characterise the single UCNP spectrum
- the only real-time single nanoparticle tracking system in Australia with multiplexing label capacity and the capacity for long-term recording of UCNP movement inside living cells
- a real-time display system that enables real-time UCNP display 2D
- advanced dynamic optical tweezers with capacity for 3D trapping and UCNP control
- the first UNCP-based STED system in the world.
Nanoparticle Synthesis Lab
This lab is equipped with three fume hoods for the production of UCNP. It’s one of only two such facilities in Australia.
