We work to remove systemic barriers that exclude some students from higher education.
Student access and pathways
Our approach is student-centred, strength-based and inclusive, consciously valuing diversity.
Through positive, high quality and uplifting educational experiences encircled by a sense of belonging and welcoming, we aim to see students thrive and achieve their individual aspirations.
Our work in this space is underpinned by the UTS Widening Participation Strategy.
Our programs
The U@Uni Academy
Our unique program to address inequality in tertiary education, by engaging and nurturing students who are not on track for university. After an intensive two-year program, U@Uni opens the door to 300 young people each year to study at UTS.
Humanitarian Scholarship Program
Most young people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds are ineligible for HECS-HELP and other government support schemes in Australia. We help remove barriers for undergraduate students who are asylum seekers or temporary protection visa holders both financially and through a comprehensive support program.
UTS Pasifika Program
The UTS Pasifika Program uses culturally responsive pedagogy and practice to design initiatives, programs and experiences informed by Pasifika values, world views and knowledge. Our programs aim to increase access, representation and visibility of Pasifika learners, professionals and community in higher education.
Educational Access Schemes
We want to ensure that students from the widest range of backgrounds have an opportunity to access our courses. Our Educational Access Schemes acknowledge diverse educational experiences, and support students through an equitable admission process.
The NSW Equity Consortium
A partnership between UTS, Macquarie University and UNSW, targeting capability building in Years 7, 8, and 9. Currently being piloted in seven Sydney schools.
First Year Success Program
Prepares and supports first year students from our widening participation programs as they begin their university journeys.
