Project title - Introducing New Recycled Plastic Product to Market
Project summary
Boxhead Plastics is a Hornsby NSW-based non-profit that collects, recycles and re-manufactures scrap plastic from the automotive industry, particularly plastic car bumper bars from Sydney-based smash repair businesses. We provide work experience to people who experience barriers to entry into the workforce.
Boxhead Plastics currently manufactures two golf tees and coasters and is looking to manufacture a larger product for commercial, and industrial uses. This 'product is protective pallet corner guards' for the transport industry. See the attached picture.
The project would be to have UTS partners who are trained and skilled at introducing a new product to the market, gaining valuable customer leads, recording and reporting on market interest, and possibly securing pre-orders. This will then give the Boxhead Plastics team a real understanding of sales volumes and revenue to ultimately help us decide if we should invest the capital to manufacture this product on scale.
Project impact
Since countries like China have closed their doors to the world's plastic waste imports, countries like Australia are finding it harder to re-manufacture their increasing amounts of recycled plastics.
This project diverts plastic waste from landfills and recycles it back into a useful product. It shows policymakers that Australia can re-manufacture its own plastic waste. It provides local jobs for local people in an industry that is struggling to compete with cheap imported plastic products competitively.
Boxhead Plastics prides itself on offering work experience to people far from the labour force. By helping our charity grow, you are helping many industries and people secure a more economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable future.
