The Australian Network for Quality Digital Education strives for impact that is greater than the sum of its parts.

We are keen to hear from people who believe their work is aligned with the Network’s interests and priorities. If you would like to explore the potential to collaborate on bending edtech’s impact to improve equity in Australian education, please email us at: edtechnetwork@uts.edu.au or follow us on LinkedIn.

0:02

imagine an artificial intelligence

0:04

enhanced adaptive interactive computer

0:07

software program that can identify when

0:09

and how a student is having challenges

0:11

with reading or maths now imagine that

0:14

same computer program alerting that

0:16

student's teacher and providing learning

0:18

suggestions specifically designed for

0:20

that student's

0:22

difficulties or imagine an AI based app

0:25

installed on any commercially available

0:27

tablet that can precisely detect graphia

0:30

writing difficulties in children then

0:32

immediately start to address the child's

0:34

writing challenges through engaging

0:36

lessons exercises and games providing

0:39

vital early stage support regardless of

0:42

where that child lives or long waiting

0:44

lists to see a diagnostic specialist

0:47

these tools Don't Have To Be Imagined

0:49

because they are already in use along

0:51

with many other forms of AI enabled

0:54

education technology or what we call

0:57

edtech edtech today is offering unparal

1:00

levels of personalization and enrichment

1:02

to the way the children are taught an

1:05

enormous potential to cut through the

1:07

time- wasting administrative tasks that

1:09

take teachers away from direct student

1:12

engagement its influence on future

1:14

Generations is inevitable edtech will

1:18

become part of our educational furniture

1:20

and perhaps quite soon certainly the

1:23

edtech market is growing rapidly however

1:26

my research conducted through a Paul

1:28

Ramsey Foundation fellowship at the UTS

1:31

Center for social justice and inclusion

1:34

has found that not all edtech is created

1:36

equal we must make sure that AI back

1:40

dead Tech is high quality and fit for

1:42

purpose designed based on learning

1:45

science and built with all the safety

1:47

protections that AI tools require

1:50

privacy security transparency and

1:54

absence of bias the proper use of edtech

1:57

is the responsible use of edtech and

2:00

that means safeguards for our children

2:03

in schools the greatest Safeguard we

2:05

have when using artificial intelligence

2:07

is human intelligence putting systems in

2:10

place to empower our teachers to be the

2:13

governors of

2:14

edtech the power of edtech is Amplified

2:18

when it supports not replaces teachers

2:21

research shows that edtech is most

2:23

effective when designed with teachers

2:26

and when its use is proportionate

2:28

clearly targeted and well integrated

2:30

into a teachers's learning

2:33

plan it's crucial that we prepare our

2:35

Educators to identify beneficial forms

2:38

of edtech and to shape which kinds of

2:40

edtech are adopted in

2:43

schools it's also crucial that all

2:45

students can access the power of edtech

2:47

and not only those who already have

2:49

educational advantages we cannot afford

2:52

to let a digital divide compound our

2:54

learning

2:56

divide that's why through our UTS

2:59

research

3:00

we have established the Australian

3:02

Network for Quality digital education we

3:05

can help tackle Australia's learning

3:07

divide through a clear strategic agenda

3:10

for developing high quality ethical

3:13

education technology that is accessible

3:16

affordable and well supported for

3:18

Effective implementation and impact this

3:21

network will include Australian leaders

3:24

across education industry Community

3:27

philanthropy government and research

3:30

sectors everyone who will be affected by

3:32

the emergence of edtech must have the

3:35

opportunity and voice in its development

3:37

and

3:38

use because with the right design

3:41

training and oversight edtech not only

3:43

has the power to enhance learning it

3:46

also can be the Catalyst to disrupt

3:49

education disadvantage Equity is a

3:52

critical dimension of edtech and Central

3:54

to our ambition for Quality digital

3:57

education having equal access to

3:59

Advanced learning tools that are

4:01

inclusive by Design is the next Frontier

4:04

in overcoming Australia's digital and

4:07

learning divide between advantaged and

4:10

disadvantaged

4:11

students with the support of the Paul

4:13

Ramsey foundation and the University of

4:15

Technology Sydney we are building a

4:18

network of Partners who are investing in

4:20

the Equitable future of all Australian

4:23

students join us in building an edtech

4:26

future that is well-designed well used

4:29

and well

4:34

governed

Network partners

The Network is convened with inaugural resourcing by the Paul Ramsay Foundation, and sponsored by the UTS Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion.

UTS Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion

As a public purpose institution, UTS is committed to driving social change within and beyond our campus. Our social impact agenda focuses research, education and practice from across the university to benefit people and communities.

The Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion is a gateway for community organisations, not for profits, social purpose businesses and individuals to engage with the university's resources and expertise to maximise social impact.

Paul Ramsay Foundation

The Paul Ramsay Foundation (PRF) is one of Australia’s largest charitable foundations.

The late Paul Ramsay AO established the Foundation in 2006 and, after his death in 2014, left most of his estate to continue his philanthropy for generations to come.

PRF believe that people and communities across Australia deserve to thrive. Its vision is to break cycles of disadvantage so that everyone has access to opportunities, regardless of their circumstance or postcode. PRF seek to identify and partner with individuals, communities, and organisations, and work across sectors to collectively achieve this change.

Acknowledgement of Country

UTS acknowledges the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation and the Boorooberongal People of the Dharug Nation upon whose ancestral lands our campuses now stand. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledging them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
