Applications and re-applications for the Autumn 2025 intake open on Wednesday 9 October at 10am (AEST) via our online portal.
Apply for UTS Housing
Rooms are limited; once all our rooms have been allocated for that intake, you will still be apply but will go onto a waiting list. Please note that there's a $50 non-refundable application fee should you still want to apply for that session.

Please note that:
- To be eligible for UTS accommodation, you must be enrolled or intend to enrol (over 6 credit points) as a UTS student (excludes UTS College) doing either an undergraduate, a postgraduate or research degree for the relevant accommodation period being sought in the application;
- UTS student bedrooms and studios are for one person only;
- We do not cater for couples or family accommodation.
How to apply
- You must intend to enrol or be enrolled for the session you are applying for.
- Have a look at the different room types and fees associated. Once you’ve found something that suits your style and budget, you can complete the online application.
- View our applications' FAQs to get answers to questions you may have.
- Complete your application via the UTS Housing Starrez portal and pay the $50 non-refundable application fee (note: completing an application doesn't guarantee you a room).
If you have any issues accessing the online application form, please contact the UTS Housing Service office. Once you’ve completed the online application, it will be reviewed by the UTS Housing Admissions Officer. - If your application is successful, you will receive an offer letter that you will need to respond to within the period specified in the letter. If you do not respond to the offer then we will assume that you no longer want the accommodation and it will be re-allocated.
- You will then need to complete the online induction and pay the acceptance fee ($150) and your bond (equivalent of 4 weeks of your rent).
Selection guidelines
To ensure that room allocations are equal and fair, we follow a set of selection criteria as guidelines when allocating places to new applicants. Please ensure you provide us with clear information in relation to any issues requiring special consideration.
To be eligible for UTS accommodation, you must to enrolled or intend to enrol (over 6 credit points) as a UTS student (excludes UTS College) doing either an undergraduate, a postgraduate or research degree for the relevant accommodation period being sought in the application. Failure to enrol by the UTS Census date or withdrawing may result in the cancellation of your Licence Agreement and a cancellation fee may apply.
If you are enrolled as above, the following selection guidelines are taken into account when reviewing your application:
- previous academic achievement
- year of study/faculty/program
- gender balance
- geographic origin
- track record or interest in contributing positively to residential life
- enrolment status
- preference may be given to students applying for UTS residences for the first time
Special consideration may be given to applicants who have:
- limited financial means*
- a relevant disability where the need for UTS accommodation can be linked to learning needs
- gained admission to UTS via a special admissions scheme (e.g. inpUTS, Jumbunna) or via an AusAID Scholarship
* Set criteria are used by UTS to assess whether a student is experiencing financial hardship and is eligible for financial assistance. For more general information, please contact the financial assistance service.
Application fee for new applicants
Applications from new applicants must be accompanied by an AUD $50.00 application fee. This is an administrative cost for reviewing and assessing applications.
This fee is non-refundable. No refunds will be paid to applicants who cancel their application, or whose application for accommodation at UTS is unsuccessful.
Resident re-applications
Current residents who want to continue living in UTS Housing are required to complete their re-application via the UTS Housing portal before the re-application deadline. There is a $50 re-application fee.
The following considerations apply when reviewing your reapplication:
- you must have completed the UTS Consent Matters training (either via a previous UTS Housing application or via a UTS communication—you do not have to re-do the training if you have already completed it once)
- involvement in the UTS Housing community and activities
- overall length of stay in UTS Housing residences
- history of residence, including academic progress, financial payments and disciplinary records
- special needs or extenuating circumstances
- students should still be enrolled as a UTS student during the relevant accommodation period being sought in the application
