Domestic applicants
All applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies. If you studied at an Australian tertiary education institution, you are not required to submit academic transcripts, as UTS will confirm your education via the VTAC system.
Applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) must:
- Provide evidence of a capacity to undertake tertiary study
- Include in their submission of a CV: details of hospital or college certificates AND details of professional or staff development
You will need to provide the following documentation to support your application, in addition to any course-specific requirements, listed below.
- Evidence of name change, if applicable
- Translations of any documents not in English
- Proof of English proficiency if medium of instruction at undergraduate level was not in English (eg. IELTS)
- If your previous studies were undertaken overseas and fully in the medium of English, a letter from the home institution on University letterhead to confirm that you have completed the course in the English medium.
- A brief CV including details of roles performed in current and previous health care employment.
International applicants

- Evidence of completion of study if this is not stated on the academic record
- Evidence of name change if applicable

- If your previous studies were undertaken overseas and FULLY in the medium of English, a letter from the home institution on University letterhead to confirm that you have completed the course in the English medium.

Course-specific entry requirements
Advanced Nursing (Master/Graduate Certificate)
- Evidence of current registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Registration will be confirmed via the National Register of Practitioners.
- At least one year full time post-registration clinical experience.
- Specialty only: In some cases, applicants must show evidence of concurrent employment in the specific specialty clinical area of study. Suitability for enrolment will be determined by the Course Coordinator.
Graduate Diploma in Midwifery
- Evidence of current registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Registration will be confirmed via the National Register of Practitioners.
- Evidence of concurrent employment in a midwifery student position through NSW Health or a NSW private hospital. Acceptance into the course is dependent on the applicant securing employment.
All applicants are required to apply for employment in a midwifery student position through the centralised recruitment process or through direct application to affiliated private hospitals. The centralised process is administered by the NSW Department of Health (NSW Health), Nursing and Midwifery Office (NaMO) and is called MidStART. Applicants are selected on academic merit based on their grade point average.
Applications for the NSW Health MidStart recruitment process are open in May-June each year. UTS will accept applications for enrolment in this course from July. We recommend you submit your application to study at UTS before October, as applications received after this date may not be considered.
2023 intake: Applicants need to be available to attend block classes in December 2022, for the first midwifery subjects. Read more on key dates for applying to the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery.
Health Services Management (Master/Graduate Certificate)
- Masters: Minimum academic requirement: The bachelor’s degree should be in a related field, within the disciplines of health or human services disciplines.
- Graduate Certificate: Applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree may also be considered on the basis of:
- Having extensive relevant work experience in healthcare or human services.
- The relevant work experience must be demonstrated through a CV and a Statement of Service, confirming the dates of employment and the position held within the organisation.
Palliative Care (Master/Graduate Diploma/Graduate Certificate)
- Evidence of current registration as a health professional. Registration will be confirmed via the National Register of Practitioners.
Graduate Diploma in Diabetes Education and Management
- A bachelor degree (or overseas equivalent) in a health related field such as nursing, allied health or medicine
- All applicants must submit a CV which demonstrates employment in a health or health related discipline and hold current registration in Australia for one of the following discipline areas: Registered Nurse (RN or Division One), Registered Midwife, Accredited Practising Dietician, Registered Medical Practitioner, Registered Pharmacist, Registered Podiatrist, Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Registered Physiotherapist.
