Dr Rizoiu is recognised at Australian Defence Industry Award
Dr. Rizoiu was honoured with the prestigious Excellence Award and was named Academic of the Year.
Dr. Marian-Andrei Rizoiu's groundbreaking work in countering the proliferation of misinformation and disinformation in the online realm, including state-sponsored information operations and digital propaganda, has received high recognition at the 2023 Australian Defence Industry Awards.
Dr. Rizoiu, who leads the Behavioural Data Science Lab at UTS, articulated his core objective: "My primary goal is to unravel the dynamics of information dissemination online and decipher the factors that propel it into vitality. I develop cutting-edge tools for the examination of misinformation and disinformation, enabling us to detect its presence, predict its significance, and devise effective countermeasures."
Winning this award is a testament to the tangible value of my research. It underscores the efficacy of my interdisciplinary approach, methodologies, tools, and data in addressing real-world challenges for the Defense sector.
