For each clinical placement, you'll be allocated to a Clinical Facilitator. These are experienced Registered Nurses or Registered Midwives whose role it is to teach, guide, support and assess students during clinical placements.
Clinical facilitators
Clinical Facilitators will assist you in meeting the learning objectives for the placement and will help you navigate the challenges you experience on placement.
On day 1 of placement, your clinical facilitator will meet you at the healthcare facility and discuss the placement objectives and their expectations of you on placement.
Throughout your placement, your Clinical Facilitator may commonly ask you to:
- Provide patient handover
- Discuss a plan for patient care for your shift
- Conduct and discuss patient physical assessment
- Discuss your clinical rationale for care provided
- Observe your progress notes and documentation
Your clinical facilitator will provide you with ongoing written and verbal feedback, delivered both formally and informally that will enable you to develop strategies to improve your practice throughout your clinical placement.
