Unlocking the Doors guide launch
The way we deliver housing in Australia is not working. It’s time to try something different…
Our homes are essentially linked to our wellbeing. Many Australians are faced with the prospect of housing insecurity and those who are lucky enough to be housed face a range of challenges, from rent and mortgage stress to loneliness and health conditions exacerbated by housing that is not suitable for our changing climate.
An increasing number of Australians are interested in alternatives to our traditional housing options. Resident-led co-housing can offer a range of benefits. It can foster connection and community, while reducing the cost of living through shared resources. And it puts residents at the heart of decision-making about where and how they live.
Unlocking the Doors is a new guide to resident-led co-housing, produced by CoHousing Australia, City of Sydney, the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures and the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre at the University of Wollongong.
The guide is made for people who are considering setting up a co-housing community. It features essential legal and financial information as well as lessons from co-housing case studies both here and overseas.
At this special launch event, we will hear from the team involved in the making of Unlocking the Doors and from co-housing associations and grant providers.
