Our expertise
Creativity is a key driving force of the 21st century. The Visualisation Institute has expertise in creative research practices that combine research-based inquiry with artistic innovation. We use generative creative processes, intuition, analysis, technology and play to explore complex scenarios. Storytelling is core to our approach, from finding new vantage points on existing stories to the articulation of new stories, from climate change to citizen science. We rely on creative approaches to data visualisation to deliver wider public participation and deep understanding.
Design
There’s never been a more challenging or exciting time for architects, interior architects and landscape architects to ‘give imagination space’. Our focus encompasses creative design and advanced construction technologies as well as new media, technology and the politics of contemporary urban architecture. In keeping with our university’s future vision, we use visualisation to address questions of urban culture, climate change and sustainability.
Visualisation
We explore new approaches to data visualisation and visual analytics to uncover trends and patterns in large volumes of data. This includes the creation of clear, interactive visualisations that support the development of insights and lead to better decision making. It means providing the right information in the right form at the right time - using everything from ‘traditional’ screens to immersive environments to augmented & virtual reality devices.
