Our approach
Our approach
We are cross-disciplinary and collaborative
The Visualisation Institute draws on expertise across UTS and from our network of collaborators across industry and academia. We recognise that discovering and communicating insights is a rich, complex and multifaceted challenge. As such, we draw on our experience across design, arts and social sciences, engineering, information technology and data analytics to address real-world challenges.
Human values and human-centred design are central
For us, exploring data and generating and communicating insights are fundamentally grounded in people’s activities and experiences. In everything we do we seek to collaborate, connect with and understand the people who will be experiencing our creations, in order to ensure genuinely positive contributions.
We create things and are focused on outcomes
The Visualisation Institute creates innovative products, prototypes and artworks. Our research is practice-based, in that we learn through the practical, exploratory application of new approaches and technologies - and careful and thorough reflection and evaluation. While we learn from past work and draw on years of research we recognise that insights have impact when they are experienced outside the lab.
We’re rigorous & ethical
While we are practical, what we create is based on years of research and thorough understanding of past work. We are rigorous in our exploration and application of new forms of visualisation and are responsible and ethical researchers.
