So why do a PhD at the Faculty of Health?

Dr Sahar Shariflou – Orthoptics, Graduate School of Health:

I’ve continued my PhD research into my post doc on glaucoma here at the Faculty of Health and I work in close collaboration with clinicians at the Centre for Eye Health and Marsden Eye Specialists. The supervisory support here has been incredible. My supervisors have fantastic industry connections that have led me to set up collaborations with highly knowledgeable clinicians, researchers and specialists, both nationally and internationally.

Wayne Varndell – School of Nursing and Midwifery:

So the Faculty of Health has really enabled me to succeed in my research. You’re continually surrounded by clinical and academic leaders, both nationally and internationally recognised, who’ve enabled me to translate the findings of my research to make real impact into the day-to-day care that emergency nurses provide to critically ill patients in the emergency department.

Georgia Brown - School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation

Being embedded with Football Australia has provided me with a unique opportunity to do research with elite and professional female athletes, on a topic of interest and importance to both industry and academia. Particularly given the limited research that currently exists for females in sports science. It has also allowed me to develop industry-relevant skills, build my career and explore academia all at once.
