Remediation payments to ex-staff: Privacy notice
The People Unit and the payroll team in the Finance Unit of the University of Technology Sydney (referred to as 'we' or 'us') is collecting information from you to calculate and process remediation payments.
Information collected, generated and held by UTS relating to staff remuneration is covered by the UTS Employee privacy notice. In addition to that notice, the following information is provided to clarify how your information will be collected, used, disclosed and managed for this specific activity.
Collecting information
When you apply for a remediation payment, we will be collecting the following information:
- personal details, including your name, date of birth, contact information
- financial details, including bank account details, tax file number, superannuation details
- proof of identity documents (via a 100 point check)
- estate details (if relevant).
Some information will be automatically collected in audit logs when interacting with our systems, or when we communicate with you.
Using information
We will be using the information we collect from you, and accessing information already held in your employment records, such as your personal details, salary information and payment history for the following purposes:
- to verify your identity
- to calculate payments owed to you
- to provide remediation payments to you, and
- for quality improvement and planning purposes. This includes for this activity or broader strategic planning.
Disclosing information
Information collected or created as part of this activity will be disclosed to meet government reporting requirements only. For instance, where data is reported to Fair Work Australia and the Australian Taxation Office. Otherwise, information will only be disclosed with your consent, or where required or permitted by law.
Managing information
UTS engages third parties to assist the university to provide payroll systems and services.
Your personal information may be accessed or held by parties who are under contract to provide systems and services to UTS for the purposes of managing payments to staff, and in this case, remediation payments to past employees. To provide systems and services to UTS, some contracted parties may also access or hold information outside NSW or overseas. UTS requires contracted
parties to have compliant privacy policies and processes in place to protect your information. These parties are only allowed to use your information to assist UTS in providing the required services.
We will store your information for the purposes covered above and in line with legal records retention obligations under the NSW State Records Act 1998.
Your rights
You have the right to request access to the information held about you, or to request inaccurate information be corrected. To request access to your information, or request your information be corrected, direct requests to the contact listed below.
If you wish to cancel your application or stop it from being processed, refer your request to the contact listed below.
