The purpose of universities in the 21st century is not only to deliver quality education and research, but to mobilise our knowledge, teaching and practice for public good.
Community engagement
Old models of educational institutions, based on transactional knowledge exchange, are making way for new ways of working that focus on transformational partnerships with two-way engagement and learning. Rather than undertaking research on behalf of society, we strive for meaningful, equitable and impactful knowledge work, in collaboration with the communities that make up society.
The Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion exists to drive innovation at UTS in this space. We champion the unique role that universities can play, grounded in partnership and reciprocity.
UTS’s work in this space includes:
Shopfront Community Program
Placing UTS students at the heart of the community sector to gain real-world experience and make a meaningful difference to local not-for-profit organisations.
Community engaged research and practice
We are dedicated to creating positive change that transforms communities by working in partnership with local, national and global communities.
Carnegie Community Engagement Classification
The Carnegie Community Engagement Classification allows universities to demonstrate their commitment to the communities they serve and to share good practice in the sector.
SOUL Award
A two-stage, extra-curricular social justice leadership and volunteering program for UTS students.
