Academic Liaison Officers (ALOs)
Academic Liaison Officers (ALOs) are academic staff in each faculty who are responsible for determining approval of assessment adjustment arrangements for:
- students with disabilities
- students with carer responsibilities, or students who are pregnant.
Students with disabilities / access requirements (including ongoing medical conditions, mental health and learning disabilities) need to register with the Accessibility Service to arrange an Access Plan in consultation with an Accessibility Consultant in the Accessibility Service of Student Services Unit.
- Accessibility Consultants provide recommendations for exam provisions and reasonable adjustments for assessments following consultation with the student about their needs, and assessing the documentation provided by their health professional.
- ALOs determine whether these recommendations can be approved and in doing so ensure that the academic integrity of assessments is maintained.
Appointments with Accessibility Service staff are confidential and can be made by calling +61 2 9514 1177 or email Accessibility.Service@uts.edu.au if a phone is not accessible for you. The Accessibility Service will recommend assessment arrangements to the ALO.
ALOs are also contacts for students with carer responsibilities including students who are pregnant. For example, primary carers for small children or family members with a disability / ongoing illness). Students should approach their ALO directly to discuss their requests, ideally prior to the census date.
Requests can be made to the ALO using the application for students who have carer responsibilities or who are pregnant (PDF)
Due date for centrally conducted exams applications.

Responsible Academic Officers (RAOs)
Responsible Academic Officers are senior academics in each faculty who oversee assessment procedures and resolve conflicts relating to assessment. They are also responsible for the appointment of ALOs, and for resolving significant differences of opinion between the AC, Subject Coordinators and ALO about learning and assessment arrangements.
Students can make an appeal to their Responsible Academic Officer if they are not satisfied with the assessment arrangements made by their ALO. It’s recommended that you talk to your Accessibility Consultant in the first instance.
